Why Doesn’t God Hear My Prayers?

Welcome to Find Happy Way. 🌿

“Why doesn’t God answer my prayers?”

Today, I’d like to begin with this simple yet painful question:

Every year, many people write down their prayer lists at the start of the year,

and by the end of the year, they check how many have been answered.

In church, we often hear about George Müller’s twelve thousand answered prayers,

as a testimony that “God always answers prayer.”

“If you pray with faith,” they say,

“you will experience the same God who answered all of Müller’s prayers.”

But… does God really answer every prayer?

At least in my life, that hasn’t always been true.

No matter how earnestly I prayed,

no matter how firmly I believed without a trace of doubt,

many of my prayers were never answered.

So today, I want to think about this together with you.

Why doesn’t God seem to listen to our prayers?

Let’s begin today’s essay.

Faith That Only Prays

I started attending church in middle school.

I experienced small miracles and truly felt God’s presence.

I was baptized and thought my faith was strong.

When I was in high school, my dream was to major in special education.

But my grades were near the bottom of the class.

So I prayed.

“Lord, I want to study special education.

It’s the dream You gave me—please help me get accepted.”

I believed with all my heart that God would answer.

The Bible says if we pray holding onto His Word, He will hear us.

So I clung to Scripture:

“Nothing will be impossible for the one who believes.”

“Ask, and believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”

So I prayed constantly, without a trace of doubt.

To be exact—I only prayed.

Study? Not at all.

Why study when I already believed God would make it happen?

A Sincere Prayer… and Its Result

Did I get into college?

No.

Not one school accepted me.

So why didn’t God listen?

I was sincere.

I believed completely.

I even thought that dream was from God Himself.

But my unbelieving friends all got accepted while I didn’t.

Why?

People Who Make the Same Mistake

Now I realize how foolish that was.

But I still see people around me making the same mistake.

They go to every early morning prayer meeting,

yet don’t even prepare breakfast for their kids.

They don’t talk with their children,

but they pray earnestly for “obedient kids.”

They don’t create a peaceful environment for study,

but they pray for their children to get good grades.

How different are they from me,

who prayed so hard yet never studied?

Following Jesus’ Example

When Jesus came to this world, He didn’t just speak.

He showed everything through His actions.

He didn’t just say “serve one another”—He served.

He didn’t just say “love one another”—He gave His life in love.

He healed the sick, wept with those who mourned,

fed the hungry, and prayed constantly.

But we—many of us—only pray.

We read and listen, but we don’t act.

We attend church faithfully, but don’t live out what we hear.

True faith begins when we act on God’s Word—

when we love, comfort, encourage, and communicate in our homes,

when we pray for one another

and faithfully do our part in the time given to us each day.

That’s where genuine faith begins.

What Is True Answered Prayer?

Faith isn’t just about attending church or praying loudly.

It’s living out what we believe.

When our faith takes form in our actions,

our prayers will no longer fall to the ground unanswered.

If you pray,

“God, please help me do well on my exam,”

then study diligently.

Do your best, and leave the rest to God.

If it’s His will, He will give you strength,

help you recall what you’ve learned,

and bless you with wisdom and understanding.

But if He doesn’t?

If your prayer seems unanswered?

You may not understand the reason right away,

but if you’ve done your best,

you won’t be left with regret.

And one day, you’ll see why God allowed it that way.

Even Paul pleaded for healing,

yet God said, “My grace is sufficient for you.”

Who can say which is the greater blessing—

to be healed, or to be drawn closer to God through weakness?

If we truly trust His goodness,

then whatever the result, it is the best answer.

The Beginning of True Faith

If you really want to raise your child well,

spend more time with them than at church meetings.

Show them how deeply God loves them,

how precious they are to you.

Hug them often.

Talk with them.

Don’t just tell them to study—study together.

Don’t just tell them to pray—pray with them.

When they’re sad, be sad with them.

Encourage them with God’s Word.

When we live this way—with our spouses, our families, our neighbors—

then God will surely hear our prayers.

Not in our way,

but in His perfect way.

Faith with Responsibility

Let’s not neglect what God has entrusted to us

while spending all our time in meetings and services.

Let’s become Christians who strive to live out His words.

And that begins with our families.

We don’t need to do grand things—

even a cup of water given with love

is precious in God’s eyes.

What matters is not what we do,

but how we do it—

with love, humility, and faith.

Asking Again

So I ask myself once more:

Why doesn’t God answer my prayers?

Or perhaps the better question is—

Hasn’t He been answering all along?

🌿 Reflection

How about you?

Have you ever made the same mistake I did?

To me, true prayer isn’t about begging for what I want—

it begins with trusting God’s goodness in every situation.

Even when we pray fervently,

we still face joy and sorrow,

love and anger,

pain and trials.

But that doesn’t mean God has left us.

Even in silence, He is with us.

He never lets us face suffering alone.

And when we truly believe that,

we find the strength to endure with gratitude.

That, I believe,

is the real answer to prayer. 🌿

May your prayers

be not just about asking,

but about walking with God.
