Your Everyday Life Is a Miracle

Faith Lessons for a Better You | Sanctuary of the Soul Series
Your Every Day Life Is a Miracle

Mervyn Peake, a British novelist, poet, and artist, once said,

“To live at all is miracle enough.”

Today’s reflection is part of the “Sanctuary of the Soul” series.

I don’t know what kind of day you’ve had or will have,

but I hope this moment can be a brief rest for your heart.

May each day of your life become a miracle, as we begin today’s essay.

Your Everyday Life Is a Miracle

Discover miracles in the ordinary
We are living in miracles every single day,
but we often fail to realize how much of a blessing and miracle it is to simply breathe on our own.
The ability to do something, to think, feel, and move,
to have neighbors, family, and even a nation to live in—all of these are miracles.

Today, there are countless things to be grateful for,
yet we still complain and grumble about what we don’t have.
“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
God commands us to live a life of gratitude,
but we often forget and instead dwell on what we lack.

Ordinary Life Is a Miracle

When we realize that what we call “ordinary” is actually a miracle,
our lives will be filled with gratitude and joy.
On the other hand, when we see our repetitive routines as meaningless and boring,
we start to complain, envy others, and even feel miserable.
“For in Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28)

Every moment of our lives is a miracle,
but sometimes we only understand this in our minds and fail to live it out.
What may be a miracle to someone else,
we often dismiss as burdens or misfortunes.
But the world doesn’t define our lives,
nor does luck dictate our destiny.
Our lives are given by God,
and how we live today is a decision only we can make.

No Excuses, Live with Gratitude

Ask yourself:
“Am I truly thankful for the life God has given me, or am I complaining about what I lack?”
We often make excuses about our age, circumstances, or health.
But God says:
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13:5)

God has already given us what we need.
We must use what we have to live with gratitude today.
When we live with what God has provided,
we will experience the miracles embedded in everyday life.

How Is This Possible?

The answer lies in prayer and meditating on God’s Word.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
Prayer is how we hand over what we cannot do to God and trust Him to work.
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
When the Holy Spirit intervenes in our lives and renews our thoughts and hearts,
we begin to see that our everyday lives are filled with miracles.

A Life of Daily Renewal

“Because of the Lord’s great love, we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
God fills our lives with new grace every morning.
When we discover the miracles in our daily lives
and face each day with gratitude and joy,
God will lead us into deeper blessings and wisdom.

A Commitment for Today

Today, I make a commitment:
I will stop complaining about my daily life,
and instead fill it with gratitude and joy.
I will surrender my heart and mind to the Holy Spirit,
and through meditating on God’s Word, I will experience the miracles of daily renewal.

I confess that the life God has given me,
and every moment I live, is a miracle.
May the Holy Spirit guide and enlighten me every day
so that I may live a life of thanksgiving and joy.

May this reflection bring inspiration and comfort to all who read it.
I pray that today will be filled with gratitude and joy for you!

I hope this time has been a brief rest for your heart.

May you discover miracles even in the most ordinary moments of your day.

A Touching Mervyn Peake Story

Today’s reflection began with the words of Mervyn Peake,

a British novelist, poet, and artist:

To live at all is miracle enough.”

Mervyn Peake was born in 1911 in China,

the son of missionary parents.

From a young age, he showed remarkable talent in both art and writing.

He went on to study art in London and worked as a painter and illustrator.

Later, he gained recognition as a novelist

especially for his Gormenghast trilogy,

a work celebrated for its strange yet poetic world,

now regarded as one of the most unique literary achievements of the 20th century.

But his life was far from easy.

Serving in World War II left him with deep emotional scars.

Not long after, he was diagnosed with a degenerative illness similar to Parkinson’s disease.

The condition slowly took away his physical abilities, his speech,

and even his ability to draw and write.

For someone whose very life was bound up in creating,

losing the strength to hold a pen or brush was unimaginable pain.

Yet, he never stopped creating.

Even when it took him much longer,

even when his movements were limited,

he continued to write and paint as much as he could.

His works did not dwell on grand heroics,

but often revealed the quiet beauty hidden in ordinary lives.

Through his struggles,

he must have come to realize what many of us overlook:

the everyday moments we take for granted

are, in fact, precious and miraculous.

Opening your eyes in the morning, breathing,

sitting across from someone you love and sharing a conversation—

none of these things are guaranteed.

That is why he could say,

To live at all is miracle enough.”

It was not just a literary phrase,

but the confession of a man who had fought hard, endured much,

and learned to cherish life in its simplest form.

So even if today feels entirely ordinary to us,

may we not forget the countless miracles

woven into our daily lives.

Every breath, every step, every word exchanged

holds within it the gift of life itself.

Like Mervyn Peake,

may we choose to see each day not just as another day,

but as a miracle in its own right.
